Dan Blazo’s Peace Rally Poem
This is one of the most beautiful, enspiring things I have heard in a while:
To commence my speech I present
A letter I sent the President.
I sign my letter with love
And fill it’s horizons with anger,
For when push comes to shove,
Love pacifies the danger.
Dear Mr. President,
As an American resident
Whose nation has gone decadent,
Due to your role in its descent,
I’m done paying your rent.
Not a nickel or dime of mine
Will fund your organized crime.
Your grime
Your war-mongering slime.
Imperialism is your game;
Not mine.
The War on terror…
What does that require?
Fighting terror with terror,
Fighting fire with fire,
Fighting fire with fire,
Fighting fire with fire,
Fuck that!
Why not try fighting fire…
With water?
How does bombing a village in the Middle East
Make Arabian villagers receptive for peace?
How do preemptive strikes in Iraq, Pakistan, Syria
Deter schemes of violence
Aimed for America?
They don’t,
They cause hysteria,
And it spreads like malaria,
You want the world to be scared a ya?
It’s Bush who I’m wary of.
And I’m in his area!
See, you gotta back track:
Flash back,
Iraq under attack,
Baghdad sacked,
Saddam Bushwhacked.
Society ransacked in combat,
Burnt black.
Terrorist groups still intact
Al queda recruitment high as a rapper on crack,
What’s the impact of ransack?
For every act there’s a react,
Blowback and payback,
A foreign policy trainwreck!
Smashed Saddam’s statuettes
Left nothing erect
But an old Texan redneck
blaming the trainwreck on Amtrak.
Fuck that.
Found the weasel underground,
Strung him up from a rope.
“Mission accomplished”
Bush campaign quote.
That was 2003
Five years later we see
The depths of falsity
In Bush Doctrine policy
Fucked up so awfully
Not a single WMD
Not a land of the free,
Not a link to al queda
Not a sound economy.
I got an idea!
How bout we try something new?
Let’s make murder illegal
For presidents, too.
We take away gun permits
For unlawful use,
Why not take away war permits
For recurrent abuse?
I don’t want to “win” a war in Iraq,
I want a truce.
I want a diplomat in office
Not a cocky cowboy doosh.
Call it what you want it
Pre-emptive war is bull, I won’t condone it
Had the chance to make us safer but you blown it.
Said the war would be a slam dunk, we got pwned
You spit shit, dropped bombs,
And made foes
So don’t tell me your war’s for God,
That’s pure filth.
What, did God switch sides on September 12th?
This religious war stuff is getting old to me.
When did that shit start,
The Iliad, Odyssey?
Don’t tell me Iran’s evil, and you’re good,
You’re no prophet…
Not in my hood.
Yet you expect me to gratefully
Believe your theology
Seems to me
It’s mythology
Bigoted typology
Outdated ideology,
Propagandology,
False Dichotomies,
Fear mongering terminologies,
Hate-mongering policies.
Fallacies.
Unceasing tragedies.
Please! … Stop insulting me!
Don’t tell me who’s on our side,
You tried
To deride my pride with implied sides, got denied.
Your side’s not my side,
A half truth is just a lie
Your side made my friends die,
Their folks cry,
Why?
My side is that of peace and liberty
Contrarily,
You serve bureaucracy,
Hypocrisy.
It’s plain to see
You don’t speak for me
Fuck complacency.
That breeds tyranny.
You run a kleptocracy,
A military industry monstrosity.
If Jesus is free;
You’re Pontius Pilot.
I’m John Paul 3.
The threat level’s at red
Thanks Homeland Security!
Should I hide under my bed?
Shiver with fear of an obscurity?
Your words surpass deceitful;
Take the “axis of evil”
What do you believe’ll
Come of labelling them evil?
Only thing you’ll achieve’ll
Be a violent upheaval.
So get real.
My friend Andrew Dahl is DEAD because of you.
I’m pissed off, not about to forget it.
But I’m not about to submit to this fire-with-fire bullshit!
How many friends, brothers, daughters have you slain?
How many healthy lives ended in vain?
How many others are pissed off at you, man?!
You call yourself a patriot?
That’s not how I see it.
We have a Constitution.
Read it.
None of your foreign policy is legit.
Article one section eight paragraph four:
“Congress shall have the power to declare all war”
Article one section nine paragraph two:
“Habeus corpus shall not be subdued”
Bill of Rights, Amendment four
Without a warrant, my shit’s not yours to explore.
And murder for motor fuel?
That’s truly Cruel and Unusual.
You wear a flag all you want,
It won’t make your lies true,
You may have power to flaunt,
But I still say “Fuck You!”
Freedom and peace can’t be severed, never
They come together,
Can’t have one without the other,
You can’t break this bond, ever.
So if you can’t beat al queda
Without giving us all tethers
You’re no better;
If they attacked us because of our freedoms
Who’s the winner?
For Christ’s sake
How many lives will it take!?
How much heartache
Until you admit you’re a fake,
A fruitcake
Half baked
Disgrace to us all!?
I won’t lose my direction
Won’t deject my rejection
Of this political system infested with infection.
Bullshit reaching toxic levels.
If war is hell, our world’s run by devils.
Now is the time for the rise of the Rebels,
The power’s in our hands,
Take a stand!
Voice your demands,
Command our grand plans.
We’re the righteous underdogs
Up against the man!
We want the same thing that every soul desires;
Every heart aspires:
The element of wild fire
Domesticated by ceasefires;
Flames of sapphire
Cleansing mankind, lifting life even higher.
It’s our job to inspire.
We have an enemy, its true!
No Mr. President… it’s not you.
It’s not any person, group, or nation;
It’s lack of cooperation.
See, war’s just misunderstanding, and endless frustration.
But we’re ready for innovation!
If we make pacification the vocation
Of our generation, in synchronization
We can achieve a sensation:
Earthly salvation!
One day we’ll be a memory.
Consider how the world might be;
Close your eyes and breathe in;
That’s the scent of freedom
Soaring across the sea
Every “me” part of a “we”…
One day we’ll wake up from this dream and we’ll stop sleeping.
Then we’ll breathe freely.
Then we’ll see clearly.
Peace is a hammer shattering a rock
Crack through the carnage and take the evil apart.
The earth is fertile, but love can’t grow alone,
Only together can we tend the seeds we’ve sewn.
Now what we’re doing tonight might seem rather small,
But here in flesh and spirit, in solidarity with y’all
Peace stands tall,
If we stand together we can’t fall.
You are all
An inspiration to me
A tower of strength in the face of the enemy.
On Enemy lines, we’ve been held back too many times,
They’ve overstepped their bounds,
I’m taking back what’s mine,
It’s time we join together, unite, save our souls from the other side
United we fall and together we stand,
From the Mississippi soil to the Persian Sands.
Together we stand and United we call
“War divides mankind, Tear down the walls!”
Stand tall, it’s nightfall, let darkness crawl upon the brawls we all appall,
By sunrise our message will sprawl.
The heavens lay draped over Oxford like a prayer shawl;
In the darkness we purify the land like a rainfall.
From Oxford to Baghdad, from the US to Israel,
It is real.
In my heart I feel
Peace isn’t just an ideal,
A surreal pleasant-sounding appeal;
Peace is a truth;
A truth we’re here to reveal.
Peace.
